Who Owns Buick?
Do you own a Buick or are you shopping for a Buick model that’s right for you? At some point, either throughout your ownership of your Buick or during the research process, you’ve probably wondered, “Who owns Buick?” Buick is owned by General Motors (GM), and so is Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC. Buick’s history is long and rich, dating back over a century. Read on to explore the history of Buick with Ray Buick, Inc., and learn more about where new Buick vehicles are made and what makes them luxury cars.
Buick History in a Nutshell
Buick’s early history is intertwined with the early history of GM. Production of Buick vehicles began in 1903, when innovation in the automotive industry was at a peak. That same year, Buick relocated from Detroit to Flint, Michigan. There, the company manufactured the Buick Model B — the first-ever Buick. Two decades later, Buick commemorated its 20th anniversary by creating its one-millionth car.
William C. Durant acquired the company in 1904, and made it one of the United States’ best-selling automobile brands by 1908. He also founded GM in 1908. GM was created with the goal of acquiring brands that appealed to American buyers of all stripes. Buick was — and still is — a high-end brand. That being said, the answer to the common question, “Is Buick a luxury brand,” is yes.
Throughout the years, Buick has continued to offer premium vehicles that American drivers love, including the Buick Super, Buick Roadmaster, Buick Special, Buick Riviera, Buick LeSabre, and the Buick Regal.
Where Are Buick Cars Made?
Buick is an American automaker, but the locations of Buick’s manufacturing plants are fairly widespread. Buick cars are manufactured at different production locations throughout the United States, as well as Canada, China, South Korea, and Germany.
Is Buick a Luxury Car?
As we briefly answered above, yes — Buick cars are part of the “luxury” segment in the auto industry. The brand is a go-to for drivers who want upscale models with plenty of comfort amenities and technologies at cost-effective prices. When you step inside the Buick Encore, Envision, or Enclave, for example, you can expect lavish features like the following:
